Belotero Balance® is a type of dermal filler that is used to fill and smooth out mild to moderate wrinkles or skin creases of the face. It is a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler, which is a substance that is found naturally in the body and specifically the skin. Belotero Balance® is a great option for the tear trough or treatments underneath the eyes to improve depressions and signs of aging around the eyes. As a result of the product’s properties, it can be placed more superficial underneath the skin without being noticeable or lumpy. Therefore, it is ideal for areas where the skin is thin or where more superficial placement is necessary.
As we age, we show signs of aging because our skin and tissue thins and descends. As this happens, facial wrinkles, depressions, and asymmetries develop and become more noticeable. Signs of aging tend to be most apparent in the face, specifically around dynamic places of our faces, such as around the eyes and mouth. Dermal fillers have become increasingly common because they are non-invasive, not permanent, cost effective, and the recovery time is minimal.

Am I a Candidate for Belotero Balance® Dermal Filler?
If you are unsatisfied with creases, discoloration, or bags underneath your eyes, then you may be a good candidate for Belotero Balance® filler underneath your eyes. Ideal candidates should be physically healthy and non-smokers. Before making the decision to have dermal fillers, you should schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery to make sure that this is the right procedure for your aesthetic goals. In some cases, another treatment option, such as fat grafting or another facial rejuvenation procedure, may be the best course for you.
What to Expect from Your Consultation
When you schedule a consultation with the Plastic Surgery Clinic of Chicago, you will meet with a board-certified plastic surgeon who will review your medical history and perform a facial balance evaluation to ensure that you are a good candidate for dermal fillers. Your plastic surgeon will discuss your treatment options with you and recommend the type of filler that best suits your goals.
How is Belotero Balance® Dermal Filler Performed?
Belotero Balance® injections are non-invasive plastic surgery procedures and therefore can be administered in the office by a plastic surgeon. There are several types of dermal fillers, which range from semi-permanent to permanent and vary in softness and material. Most dermal fillers are made from natural substances found elsewhere in the body, or otherwise synthetic materials that mimic and stimulate the production of collagen in the body.
To administer Belotero Balance®, your plastic surgeon will mark the appropriate injection sites on your face and apply an anesthetic for comfort. Your plastic surgeon will use a blunt cannula to perform the injection around your eyes since there are important and vital structures around the eyes. A blunt cannula is safer than sharp needles, because sharp needles can inadvertently injury blood vessels, nerves, or other tissues. The injections take only moments and are relatively painless. The dermal filler is massaged into the injection site, and subsequent injections are made until results are achieved.
Recovery after Belotero Balance® Dermal Filler
Recovery after a Belotero Balance® injection is almost immediate, as are the visible results. You may be given an ice pack to reduce swelling. The injection sites will likely feel tender for a couple of days after the injections, but are not typically painful enough to require medication.
With some dermal fillers, you may experience an “overfull” appearance in the treated areas, or hypersensitivity that may seem like an allergic reaction. These conditions usually resolve within a few hours. If symptoms persist, be sure to speak with your plastic surgeon.
Potential Risk Associated with Belotero Balance® Dermal Filler
Complications from dermal fillers are very uncommon, but there are potential risks associated with any procedure. The risks involved may also vary according to the type of dermal filler used, so be sure to discuss this with your plastic surgeon during your consultation. The risks generally associated with dermal fillers may include:
- Swelling and bruising at the injection site
- Asymmetry
- Lumps beneath the skin
- Changes in skin sensation
Regardless of the complexity of the procedure, always ensure that your plastic surgeon is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and that the procedure is being performed in an accredited hospital, surgical facility, or medical practice.
How much does Belotero Balance® Dermal Filler Cost?
The cost of dermal fillers varies by several factors, so an average is difficult to ascertain. Your location, surgeon, type of dermal fillers, and number of injections required to achieve results will all affect the cost of the procedure. Dermal filler injections can range from $500 to $1000 per syringe depending on the product used and the site to be injected. Be sure to discuss costs with your plastic surgeon during your consultation.
